Term 2 2025 - Week 8 18 June 2025
Perth Primary School Calendar
From the Principal
Welcome Families,
As we approach the end of another busy term, it is important to reflect on the journey we have shared. With the winter weather settling in, we are seeing a lot more sickness amongst our school community. Whilst there are times when students need to be at home because they are sick, we are noticing a huge increase in the number of students with attendance concerns. Regular attendance is extremely important for academic growth, but also very important to build social connections. Each day at school is an opportunity to learn, grow, build and sustain friendships.

Illuminate
The Northern Midlands Council sponsored the Illuminate Program for a second year in 2025 and we opened the opportunity to all Grade 5 and 6 students. The program is a five-day challenge when groups of students participate in an innovation process to solve a problem in our community. We were involved along with Campbell Town, Evandale, Cressy, Longford and Bracknell at the Longford War Memorial Hall. The problem this year required students to think of a way to keep tourists in the Northern Midlands area overnight as many people get off the plane and drive straight through.
Students were responsible for:
- Ideation- developing positive and creative solutions for the problem.
- Developing- turning their initial idea into a business idea with financial forecasts, strategic plans and marketing.
- Presenting- communicating their ideas to stakeholders in the community for support, investment and feedback.
- Prototyping- Ideas are put into physical form and more feedback from community stakeholders.
This challenge required out students to step outside their comfort zone and task risks in a different style of learning. It was inspiring to see teams stand in front of teams of business members, presenting their ideas and then answering questions about their business. There were laughs, frustration, tears and failures and by the end of the day on Friday all teams presented their ideas to the community. We would like to acknowledge all teams and congratulate the teams who received awards for ‘Best Demonstration Hall Site,’ ‘The Prototype Award,’ ‘The Ideation Award,’ ‘Student Choice: Best Idea’ and ‘Third Place: Best Solution.’
Thanks to Adam and the team from Illuminate for this learning experience. Thank you also to the Northern Midlands Council and other sponsors. We would especially like to thank Kinetic for their sponsorship in transporting us safely every day.

Northern Midlands Cross Country
On Thursday 5 June, our cross country team headed to Deloraine for the Northern Midlands Carnival. After a chilly start, we were greeted by an amazing day of sunshine.
All our students did a wonderful job not only trying their hardest but also supporting every member of our team. A big thanks to parents and friends that cheered our students along as well!
A special congratulations to Brayden and Rylah who bought home shields in the Grade 5 races. Also well done to Angus, Ebony and Armani who placed in the top three for their races.

Country Gold Trials
In addition to our Grade 5-6 Friday sports exchange, some students are also invited to try out for Northern Midlands representative teams that compete at the AFLW Gala Day and Country Gold Carnivals in boys and girls football, soccer, netball and hockey. Students are selected by their school coach to attend trials and then selection into the teams is by the Northern Midlands East coaches for each respective team. This is a great opportunity to represent Perth as part of the Northern Midlands East teams. The ALFW Gala Day will be held on Friday 29 August and the Country Gold Carnival is held on Thursday 25 September. We wish all our students selected for the trials the best of luck.
Feeder High School Transition visits
Over the next few weeks and moving into Term 3, our Grade 5-6 students will be visiting both Kings Meadows and Cressy schools to participate in Challenge Days and other transition activities. This is a great opportunity for our students to experience what our feeder schools have to offer to support their choice of high schools for Grade 7. If you have any questions regarding high school visits or other aspects of transition to Grade 7, please talk to Miss Doran.
Readers’ Cup
Amelia, Mila and Addi recently competed against twelve other schools in the annual Readers’ Cup. They were extremely dedicated in the weeks leading up to the final. Carefully studying the six books enabled the team to answer seventeen difficult quiz questions. The Perth Primary group scored the highest score for the extra challenge; this showed their ability to think quickly and collaborate to create a piece of work about another book in just ten minutes. They enjoyed their time on stage and the audience was in awe of their polished performance. We congratulate the team and applaud them on the way they represented the school with pride.

Reading Rewards
We know the best way to get better at reading is to read more often! Many students have been rewarded for reading at home with icy-poles, books, and a play and game session. Reading at home reinforces the learning we are doing at school to develop decoding, fluency and comprehension skills.
Students can also write in a book they share at Tuesday Reading Club. Reading Club is held in the 5/6 classrooms weekly.
Let your teacher or Mrs Biffin know if you require a replacement book or have completed the first one hundred nights.

Principal For a Day
This term Grades 3/4, 4/5 and 5/6 classes have been focusing on persuasive writing and connecting this writing to real life perspectives such as the recent National Election. Students were able to nominate to run for Principal for a Day and then work with Miss Doran to create their campaign initially with posters and then as a speech to the group. All students wrote a persuasive response to who they believe should work with Mrs Dean for the day and on Friday 13 June we held an election where all students voted for the Principal for a Day. In the end it was a very close race between two students so we will be offering Assistant Principal for the Day to Cooper M and our Principal for the Day will be Addison B. The students will work for the day in the office and get to see the behind the scenes at Perth Primary. Congratulations to all who participated in our election.
